Torit County Commissioner in Eastern Equatoria State (EES) has said at least six people have been killed in two separate attacks on Kudo Payam and Ohiri village of Autak Boma in Bur Payam.

TORIT, 21 May 2013 [Gurtong] –According to German Charles Ojok, some of the killed people are suspected to Murle abductors.

“On 10 May 2013, a group of armed men all in military uniforms about 30 in number passed through Ohiri Village of Autak Boma in Bur Payam, toward Kudo, east of Torit County,” said Ojok.

“They took seeds from farms belonging to Ohiri village and as they continued their journey to Kudo Payam eastward, they were detected by the Ohiri youth who immediately followed their footmarks until near Kudo Payam where they caught up, three Ohiri youth got killed on the spot but their guns were not taken,” Commissioner Ojok told Gurtong.

The commissioner further disclosed that on 17 May 2013 another group of criminals suspected to be Murle went and broke down a well at Ohiri village and chased away the children they found there.

Ojok narrated that the Ohiri youth hunted down the suspected aggressors and killed three of them and captured 15 jerry canes, some knives and bed sheets.

The commissioner who visited the site appreciated the Ohiri youth for their bravery and urged them to defend their people and resources (properties).

The commissioner however urged the youth to not misuse guns by killing themselves within clans or payams instead they should use them to defend their people and properties or resources from external aggressors.

“Our neighbouring payams should now learn from Ohiri by not killing themselves and their fellow payams like Hiyala do. It is a shame even to kill a fellow South Sudanese when we clearly fought Khartoum jointly for liberation,” he bemoaned.
