Morobo County administration in Central Equatoria State in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit ( GIZ) will soon install a community FM Radio station in the county.

MOROBO-22 May, 2013 [Gurtong] –The project is funded by the Government of Germany through its (GIZ) non-governmental organization operating in South Sudan. Morobo County is one of the beneficiaries of GIZ’s programmes.
This would be the first FM radio station to be installed in county since the county gained its administrative unit status as a county in 2004. The FM Radio Station will be installed at Morobo County Youth Centre.
Hon. Moses Simon Soro, the County Commissioner said, the radio is for the community and will act as “a mouth piece” of the community in disseminating information that is of public interest in the county.
According to Soro, the radio will also help in enhancing good governance in the county through public involvement and participation in decision making processes aimed at developing the county, state and South Sudan.
The commissioner added that GIZ will help pay two radio Journalists and other running costs for a period of one year before handing it over to the community.
A reliable source from GIZ who declined to be identified said, the whole equipment for the radio station has already arrived in the county and the construction of the studio and other departments is also underway and expected to be completed soon.
He disclosed that there will be a-three-week training for the radio journalists in the county which will kick off early next week Monday.
The natives of Morobo County listen to Easter Radio, Liberty Fm, Spirit Fm in Yei and Koboko District in Uganda and Miraya Fm.
The citizens in the county have been cut off from their own local news and other important soci-economic programs that would have had positive impact in the development of the county.
The installation of this community FM radio station is viewed as a great achievement to the people of Morobo County and its neighboring counties.
In terms of coverage, this FM radio Station is expected to cover some parts of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
